Nonno Bennito in front of the cactus he's been cutting back. We spent this last Sunday visiting Adrian's grandparents in Gippsland. It's one of my favourite things to do on a Sunday, visit them for lunch.
Benny spends most days tending to his orchard of figs, citrus, olive trees and a whole spread of fruits and vegetables. This particular Sunday he spent nearly all day making nets for his trees and cactus. Adrian's nonna Nancy made an amazing lunch. This time we had Adrian's all-time-favourite meatballs and an eggplant (from the garden) pasta bake.
You'd think we'd be full (and we were). Even so, we grazed on some prickly pears, figs and several pieces of her banana coconut cake over her stove top coffee. And we still left with a bag full of left overs, bacio chocolate and most importantly uncovering a little more to their stories.
